Prize giving rounds off sailing season at Port Ohope - June 14th 2015
Members and families attended our annual dinner at the Fishermans Wharf Cafe for the Port Ohope Yacht Club's annual prize giving This was the final event of a very successful sailing season of over a hundred races, sailed in all weathers ranging from 20 knot westerly gusts with rain, to drifters in the sun when the tide was running as fast as the wind would propel the boats.
Club racing on Sunday afternoons took place over 25 weekends starting last September. The season is now closed until this September, by which time all those home chores should have been completed and the yachts overhauled and ready for the next season.
In the main class of 13 Lasers the Vortex Trophy was won by Ric Carr, followed by a tie for second place between Mark McIntosh and Mike Tarboton, 4th place was Graeme Tee.
Radial Class Line Honours (Brass Monkey Monohull) - Heather Hourigan
Junior Sailor (Millenium Cup) - Chum Hay.
In the Club Championship, Ken Tarboton won line honours in the Lasers (Mark Kebbel Memorial Trophy), while Peter Mackenzie won the Pat Smylie Memorial Sextant for the Round the Island Race.
The Laser 4.7s was won by Katie Reid, and the Radials champion was Di Brown.
The two regular juniors who competed keenly with each other for line honours in the Optomist class, shared the trophies with Liam Marshall winning the Devil’s Cup as Opti champion, and Chum Hay the Millenium Cup as Club Junior champion.

Learn to sail October 2014
Sail to the Whale on March 2nd. Barry Cutfield and Wade Brown provided support boats for the day. Barry had a great crew particularly when it came to offers of steering of the boat and checking for fish through the net. Di Brown getting a photo shoot above while on her maiden voyage across the sea. A good time was had by all. Sailors sailed around Whale Island and meet the support boats moored in the bay on the South side of the Island. It was awesome.
